چکیده

Introduction Atherosclerosis The term, atherosclerosis, as it was originally coined by Thoma in 1886, was devised to describe a degenerative process involving the progressive hardening of the blood vessel wall. Today we have advanced to the understanding that the ultimate atherosclerotic lesion is a complex and heterogeneous arrangement of rapidly proliferating and migrating cells that produce and support an active connective tissue matrix. Two major forms of atherosclerotic lesions have been described: the fatty streak and the fibrous plaque. Classic fatty streaks are raised, narrow, yellowed lesions that extend in the direction of blood flow. They are nonobstructive and are likely, but yet unproven, precursors of more advanced lesions. The streaks are characterized by subendothelial collections of foam cells, smooth muscle cells (SMC), T-lymphocytes, and an extracellular matrix of lipid, collagen, elastin, and proteoglycan.-Monoclonal antibody studies have shown that foam cells are primarily monocyte-derived macrophages and occasionally SMC that have imbibed cholesterol and cholesterol esters.

Wharton’s Jelly Mesenchymal Stem Cell: Various Protocols for Isolation and Differentiation of Hepatocyte-Like Cells; Narrative Review

There are several differentiation methods for mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) into hepatocyte-like cell. Investigators reported various hepatic differentiation protocols such as modifying culturing conditions or using various growth factors/cytokines. In this literature review, we compared different MSCs extraction and isolation protocols from Wharton’s jelly (WJ) and explored various MSCs differ...

Biochemical properties and biological functions of the enzyme rhodanese in domestic animals

The enzyme rhodanese (thiosulfate: cyanide sulfurtransferase) is a ubiquitous enzyme and its activity ispresent in all living organisms. Many functions including cyanide detoxification, formation of iron-sulfurcenters and participation in energy metabolism have been attributed to this enzyme. The enzyme catalyzesthe transfer of a sulfur atom from sulfane containing compounds (such as thiosulfat...

Relative expression of fibroblast growth factor-1 in the cerebrospinal fluid of patients with bacterial meningitis; A Western Blot analysis

Meningitis is an inflammation of the membranes that surround the brain and spinal cord, thereby involving the arachnoid, the pia and the cerebrospinal fluid (CSF). It is divided into viral and bacterial meningitis. For different reasons the diagnosis of bacterial meningitis is very important. The examination of CSF samples may provide information about causative microorganism. The sensivity of ...

The effect of Fibroblast Growth Factor-2(FGF-2) and retinoic acid on differentiation of mouse embryonic stem cells into neural cells

Introduction: Embryonic Stem (ES) cells as pluripotent cells derived from the inner cell mass of blastula can differentiate to neural cells in vitro and this property is valuable in studies of neurogenesis and in the generation of donor cells for transplantation. In this regard, the propose of this research, was the study of the role of two important factors in the development of neural syst...
